SPUMAX was born from a simple insight: the foam concrete plants available on the market are too big, too expensive, too imprecise — or their manufacturers understand the machine but not the material.

So we built them ourselves. With hands-on knowledge of how foam concrete really works, which parameters actually matter, and what can go wrong during production.

The result: plants that do not just produce foam concrete but guarantee its quality — demonstrably, automatically, reliably.

The driving force behind the SPUMAX units is Dr. Sven Backstein — aerospace engineer with a PhD from RWTH Aachen in fluid mechanics. As a materials pioneer, he has been working with concrete in all its facets since the 1980s. His MOERTELSHOP, founded in 2008, develops speciality concretes and mortars and makes them available as a material for artists, designers, trades, industry and research.

The combination of engineering know-how, fluid mechanics and decades of hands-on experience with concrete is the reason SPUMAX plants are different: they were conceived not merely as machines, but from the material up.
